Ask Your Legislators to Include Physical Therapy in the Comprehensive

Solution to Fight the Opioid Crisis

Pain is one of the most common reasons that people seek treatment from health care providers. Since pain can be so difficult to treat and presents differently in people, its prevention and management require an integrated, multidisciplinary effort that takes into consideration the many variables that contribute to it.

Research validates that early access to physical therapy can prevent acute pain from becoming chronic pain.  APTA believes a comprehensive strategy to combat the opioid crisis and overall pain management has three elements. Physical therapists and physical therapist assistants are uniquely qualified to assess, prevent, treat, and manage pain for all types of injuries and diseases that affect every stage of life.  The 116th Congress continues to discuss potential policies to address the opioid crisis and they need to hear from YOU.

Please click HERE to lookup your legislator and send an email to your members of Congress to champion greater access to nonpharmacological options, such as physical therapy, when formulating the next steps to address the opioid epidemic.
