Jackson District TPTA chooses the ComeUnity Cafe in Jackson, TN for its PT Day of Service

ComeUnity Cafe is a non-profit cafe that was birthed by founder and manager, Amy Crenshaw.  The mission of this establishment is “to love, to feed, to dignify”.  They serve mostly organic, locally sourced foods to all, regardless of means to pay.  The dining room seats about 50 and turns over several times a day.  It is a place that is fully operated by volunteers.  What makes this cafe unique is that it is a pay-as-you-can donate cafe, and everyone gets to eat a healthy, gourmet meal. Those who have no means to pay can volunteer for an hour in order to eat lunch. The cafe also has a washer and dryer available downstairs available for use in exchange for two hours of work.

The Jackson District chose to help this establishment for its PT Day of Service project.  The volunteers working at the ComeUnity Cafe felt overwhelmed by the number of PT, PTA, and student PTA volunteers that walked through their doors on Oct 6th ready to work.  We kicked off the 4-hour service project with Mayor Jerry Gist presenting a proclamation to the Jackson District TPTA to earmark October as National Physical Therapy Month in Jackson, TN.  The Jackson District then divided into teams to assist with meal prep, taking orders, serving guests, and cleaning.

Chairperson – Felicia Ingram, PT, DPT, CLT-LANA
